I heard Tim Allen read these poems and immediately wanted the book, even though it wasn’t published. It is now, and we can all see as well as hear these terrific poems. If, as Ted Berrigan said, terrific poems are made up of terrific lines, then lines such as ‘the clouds were put in a zoo next to the zebras behind barcodes’ are the twelfth parts of terrific twelve line poems. As witty as his other recent books, these measured poems evoke a world both familiar in its surrealism and unfamiliar in its fragmented menace: ‘minister of innovation in the arts also known as minister of the interior’. These poems display innovation without ministry.
